Clara Piccioli
Student / Programme Doctorate at D-MAVT
Clara completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Università degli Studi di Firenze in Italy. During her Master’s studies, she specialized in thermo-fluid dynamics and the design of turbomachinery components, with a focus on aerodynamic, combustion, and structural mechanics, approached from numerical and experimental perspectives. Her thesis addressed aerodynamic and aeromechanical analysis of heavy-duty multistage turbine processing supercritical CO2 and SO2 mixture.
Clara joined the CAPS laboratory as Ph.D. student in December 2024. Her research is part of the ERC Synergy Grant HYROPE project, which aims to accelerate the development of sustainable gas turbines for power generation and aviation, by understanding the combustion science of hydrogen and ammonia at elevated pressure. She is currently focusing on numerical and experimental investigations of pure hydrogen turbulent flames at high pressures.
