Staff of Professorship for Combustion and Acoustics for Power and Propulsion Systems
Francis completed his Ph.D. at LPENSL in Lyon, France, in July 2024, under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Plihon. His experimental works focused on low-pressure magnetized plasmas generated by radio-frequency antennas. Throughout his Ph.D., he explored the underlying mechanisms of radio-frequency plasma generation, studied interactions between a hot electrode and a cold plasma, and identified experimentally plasma waves and instabilities in a cylindrical configuration. To achieve this, he resorted to a combination of advanced diagnostic techniques, such as Langmuir and B-dot probes, pyrometry, high-speed imaging, and modal decomposition methods (2DFT, POD).
Following his Ph.D., Francis joined the CAPS Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher, where he is currently working on hydrogen combustion. He is conducting an experimental investigation of thermo-acoustic waves at atmospheric and high pressure in an annular sequential combustor as a part of the ERC Synergy Grant HYROPE project.
